April 29, 2017

“Essential Oil can make your living space smell fresh and inviting. It’s like bringing some of the beach home with you!” – Zoomy

Essential Oil Usage Made Easy

The focus of our two previous blogs is using Essential oil for cleaning, better air quality and protecting your health. Check them out here: Natural Cleaning Products Help You Breathe Easy and Create Positive Vibes from Negative Ions.

Nature-loving urban dwellers increasingly seek chemical free products. Essential oils are a natural way to achieve that goal. Let’s take a look at specific oils and their different usages.

Our Top Picks

Important Note: we did not solicit or receive any compensation from the mentioned companies in this blog post. The oils were chosen on the basis of personal use and experience.

We suggest you use oil blends in a single bottle for a specific use. That reflects our goal at ZoomShack.com of streamlining possessions and simplifying your life. In addition, they cost less than buying individual oils and you don’t need to figure out which oils work well together.

A Protective Oil From The Middle Ages

Thieves® oil  is an oil blend that packs a germ-killing punch. It also has a colorful backstory that dates back to 15th-century France during the time of the Bubonic Plague. It’s said that there was a group of grave robbers who stole from people that died from the Plague but the robbers themselves didn’t get sick because they allegedly wore oils that protected them. When the judge sentenced them for robbery, they got a light sentence in exchange for sharing their secret oil concoctions.

The version produced by Young Living Oil is a 100% pure, therapeutic-grade essential oil. It combines clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary.  Furthermore they state that their blend is strong enough to reduce bacterial cultures, viruses, and fungi by citing research trials.

Additionally, Young Living offers it as an oil blend and as a prime ingredient in a full range of home cleaning and personal care products, from dish soap to toothpaste.

Immune Defense Support

On Guard® by the company dōTERRA is a protective blend for immune defense that is said to help kill off harmful bacteria and viruses.

Displaying an energizing and uplifting aroma, it is composed of five essential oils, including: wild orange peel, clove bud, cinnamon bark/leaf, eucalyptus leaf, and rosemary leaf/flower.

Benefits include:

  • Supports healthy immune and respiratory function
  • Protects against environmental threats
  • Supports the body’s natural antioxidant defenses
  • Promotes healthy circulation

Their web site lists several ways to use the blend.  1. Diffusing it into the air for aromatherapy purpose. 2. Using it on the skin with a carrier oil.  3. Using it on surfaces as a household cleaner.

The Fragrance of the Forest In Your Home

Floracopeia’s Forest Oil Blend brings the fragrance of the forest into your home. It has the coniferous scents of silver fir, pine, pinon pine, juniper, and spruce. It also has a hint of angelica root oil.

Founder David Crow, L.Ac. notes, “Because trees and humans are so closely related biologically, it is not surprising to discover that the essential oils produced by a tree’s immune system are directly beneficial for our immunity. When we diffuse conifer oils into our homes, we are not just bringing the beautiful fragrance of the forest indoors: we are also surrounding ourselves with a cloud of disease-fighting molecules created by the trees immunological intelligence.”

Their on-line catalogue states that trees purify the air we breathe, removing pollutants and exhaling fresh air. They also do the same for your living space.

You can read more about the immune system of plants in Crow’s informative article: Community Immunity The Immune Enhancing Effects of Diffusers.

How to Use Forest Essential Oil Blend

  • During the winter months, this is a great blend to keep running all day in your diffuser to promote winter wellness. Use Forest Blend during summer months as well to fill the air with the coolness of the conifers. Their catalogue says that you may feel transported to the top of a brisk mountain!

If you don’t have a diffuser, add a few drops to a tissue and place next to you to experience the benefits.

Alternatively, add Forest Blend to a fine mist spray bottle and fill with pure water. Spritz freely around yourself or in your car to freshen the air and clear your head.

Essential oil is the distilled essence of plants

Essential oils contain the life force of the plant. The fact is, they are the most concentrated and potent of all botanical extracts. Essential Oils are many times stronger than the natural plant itself.

The following warnings are listed by dōTERRA for their On Guard product but could equally apply to any essential oil you may choose to use:

Essential oils can uplift your immune system and make your living space smell great. However, some caution needs to be used.
