Organization – A Life Hack For Transformation

August 29, 2016

“Organization is a key element of my Trilogy of Transformation – Colorize, Organize and Maximize. Check it out here” – Zoomy

Organization is an obstacle for many of us. And yet, if we want to improve our life, clear out clutter, or redesign our living space, it can be the key to creating a life of transformation.

To change any part of our lives, which is really a collection of our habits, we need to make choices – deciding what to shift, leave out, include, or hold space for. In the end, it’s an inner journey – an examination of what’s really important and acting upon it.

Organization is choosing attractive choices.

Organization involves selecting and sorting.

Making Powerful Choices

Choices impose their presence on us every day – from whose Instagram account to follow, to what cereal to buy from the fifty or more crowding the shelves in the supermarket.

Facing so many choices can leave you feeling depleted and lethargic. This can hold you back from setting your sights on designing and creating the kind of life you want to live.

We’re here to help you take the “Whatever…” response out of your vocabulary. Because we know you’re here in this life to do more, see more, and be more. And yes, that might take a little work, and a little organization, but together, with some helpful tips from team Zoomy, you can do it!

Let’s start from the beginning. “But where is that?” you might ask. There are a lot of methods and systems to organize your stuff, your thoughts, you goals and intentions.

This blog post is the first in a series of occasional offerings on the subject of organization, goal setting and goal actualizing gleaned from writers and trend leaders who were just like you once. But they stepped into the void, made life-affirming course corrections, and now have valuable things to share with us.

Choose a place to begin.

Choose a place to begin.

The Zen of Organization

Ask yourself what’s not working in your life right now. If your answer includes a living space that needs revamping, or a schedule that needs trimming, Leo Babauta, author of the widely followed blog, Zen Habits,  offers organizational tips that are as practical as they are Zen.

He focuses on thoughtful life hacks to find “…simplicity and mindfulness in the daily chaos of our lives. It’s about clearing the clutter so we can focus on what’s important, create something amazing, find happiness.”

In his post, 18 Five-Minute Decluttering Tips to Start Conquering Your Mess,  he says, “When your home is filled with clutter, trying to tackle a mountain of stuff can be quite overwhelming.”

“So here’s my advice,” Babauta continues. “Start with just five minutes. Baby steps are important. Then take another five minutes tomorrow. And another the next day. Before you know it, you’ll have cleared a whole closet or a room and then half your house and then … who knows? Maybe before long your house will be even more uncluttered than mine. We’ll have a challenge!”

Start Small

Start with one things at a time.

Start with one thing at a time.

For those of you who are overwhelmed by your clutter, we offer one of our favorite Babauta tips to you to wet your appetite:

“Pick up 5 things, and find places for them. These should be things that you actually use, but that you just seem to put anywhere, because they don’t have good places. If you don’t know exactly where things belong, you have to designate a good spot. Take a minute to think it through — where would be a good spot? Then always put those things in those spots when you’re done using them. Do this for everything in your home, a few things at a time.”

Regardless of how your place looks at the moment, you can take control and create a space that makes you feel good. We call it a Living Space Transformation.  Find out about the Trilogy of Transformation here, in one of our previous blog posts.
